We are excited to spotlight Ritu Asthana.  She is an Electronics Engineer graduate and a software engineer by profession.  She stopped working in 2011 after her son, a 2nd grader here at Oak Creek, was born and has been a stay home mom and wife since then.

She moved to the USA six years ago and is in love with this country.  In her spare time, she is actively involved in the Indian community in Orange County - participating in and organizing various events.  When asked why she decided to be a volunteer Ritu said, "Being from India, I know how expensive Primary education can be. But when I moved to the United States and got to know education here is free, I realized what a blessing that is. Equal opportunity for all. I just adore and respect that idea. And as a grateful parent, I just want to give back to the community. I feel privileged and want to contribute in any & all ways possible. And also, my son inspires and encourages me to volunteer. Literally. Period. He just loves to have me around at school. It makes him happy.  It all started with being the Room Mom. The more I got involved the more I loved it, and before I knew it I was involved in various aspects of volunteering (prep, RTI, field trip chaperone, Read Across America, jog-a-thon) at school."

We are lucky to have Ritu at our school and thankful for her outlook on volunteering.
